Research Domains

Three Pillars of Surgical Inquiry

Prof. Kibria's published work concentrates on three fields he has practised and taught for four decades — each one shaped by patient outcomes at the bedside.

Domain 01

Vascular Surgery

Original investigation into arterial reconstruction, AV-fistula outcomes, and the management of varicose vein disease — drawing on decades of UK consultant practice.

  • Arterial reconstruction
  • AV fistula for dialysis
  • Varicose vein outcomes
  • Limb-salvage strategies
Domain 02

Laparoscopic Technique

Studies on minimally invasive approaches to gallbladder, hernia, and abdominal surgery — including comparative outcome analysis against open procedures.

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Tension-free hernia repair
  • Minimally invasive technique
  • Day-case surgical outcomes
Domain 03

Surgical Complications

Audit-driven research into post-operative complications, re-admission patterns, and how surgical units can systematically reduce avoidable adverse events.

  • Post-operative audit
  • Adverse-event reduction
  • Re-admission analysis
  • Surgical safety systems
The Journey

Four Decades of Surgical Scholarship

From Dhaka Medical College, through three decades of British consultant practice, to publishing alongside the world's leading surgical voices.

  1. Foundation

Dhaka Medical College & UK Training

MBBS at Dhaka Medical College, followed by an MSc at the University of Leeds and clinical rotations across London, Hull, Bristol, Gloucester and Bath — building the academic foundation for later research output.

  2. Fellowship Era

    Four FRCS Fellowships Earned

Awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons by England, Glasgow, Edinburgh and General — a quartet of qualifications held by very few surgeons globally, opening invitations to peer-reviewed publication.

  3. UK Consultant Years

Eighteen Years as a UK Consultant Surgeon

Over a decade and a half operating and teaching in NHS hospitals across the United Kingdom — the body of clinical experience that informed his contributions to the British Journal of Surgery and EJVES.

  4. Vascular Focus

Research in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

Multiple papers published in the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, focusing on arterial reconstruction, AV-fistula creation for dialysis access, and venous disease management.

  5. Bangladesh Practice

    Bringing UK Standards to Dhaka

Returning to Bangladesh, Prof. Kibria established two Gulshan chambers and the SMG Kibria Foundation — continuing to publish while delivering British-standard surgical care to over 35,000 patients in Dhaka.

  6. Today
